North West Highlands - Kintail
The North West Highlands are considered by many to be one of the last wilderness regions of Europe. The area can be reached relatively quickly from the conurbations in the central belt, but the real adventure of visiting this vast area is to penetrate into the remote mountain areas accessible only by foot. In many cases this requires a short holiday.

Almost all visitors to the island of Skye will have driven through Kintail and Glen Shiel on the way to Kyle of Lochalsh, but very few will have stopped. This is a shame because Kintail has some of the best hill walking in Scotland, with fine mountain ridges on both sides of the glen providing a wonderful day out for any mountaineer. Indeed, after Lochaber, Kintail has the highest concentration of Munros anywhere in Scotland.
