The area can be reached relatively quickly from the conurbations in the central belt, but the real adventure of visiting this vast area is to penetrate into the remote mountain areas accessible only by foot. In many cases this requires a short holiday. Its main attraction is the complete emptiness one feels in passing through the districts of Coigach, Assynt and Sutherland, as the moorland, lochs and mountains are negotiated.
